Patricia Larsen The shape of things, stringer primer and shape, design, connect

$580 for 3 days instruction plus all materials and lunch

skill level: beyond beginner to advanced - for anyone wanting more control of stringer control

9:30 am - 5pm - ish depending on how quickly the class moves. This is perfect for learning how to gain stinger control. Patricia shows many ways to conquer this issue from several angles and design with an art deco/arts and crafts aesthetic.

Day 1 - Stringer Control Primer This is a beginner to beyond beginner stringer pulling and applying class. Using soft glass, in ivory and black, we will pull stringer in different diameters. You will learn how to apply stringer in straight lines on different bead shapes. You will learn the benefit of holding your mandrel in the over and under position. We will practice finding the “sweet” spot in the flame. This is a good class if you wish to delve into stringer or if you need some simple tips about applying stringer.

Day 2 - The Shape of Things We will explore hand shaping using soft glass. The class will cover how to approach winding glass onto a mandrel, how to marver, heat control and how to look at molds in a different way. If you have a shape in mind but haven’t been able to achieve it, then this class is for you as well. You will learnl the “under bead” method developed to make larger beads that appear to be smaller stacked beads. Finally, we will spend some time discussing decoration on your hand shaped beads.

Day 3 - Design, Shape, Connect Students will combine hand-shaped glass beads with a sophisticated color palette and line work. A study of geometric shapes using asymmetry and stringer work.

patricia larsen - shape connect.png

Students will learn hand-shaping glass into geometric shapes, adding line design to both sides of each bead and connecting the beads to create two pendants. Students will also learn to make a bead on a copper shank that will be used in the pendant design process.
